Job summary

SSE plc's Alarm Receiving Centre in Havant is seeking individuals to monitor security systems and respond to emergency calls on a 24/7 basis. This is a 1-year fixed-term, full-time role with a 43-hour week including day and night shifts.

Location: Havant

Salary: Circa minimum starting salary £26,239, depending on skills and experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package supporting your wellbeing, finances, and family life.

Working Pattern:1 year fixed term | Full-time | 43 hours per week (including day and night shifts). The Alarm Receiving Centre operates 24/7.

The Role

We are seeking individuals who are motivated by helping others and able to perform effectively in high-pressure situations.

Group Security and Investigation play a vital role in safeguarding SSE’s assets. The Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) is a modern, purpose-built control room that provides continuous, round-the-clock monitoring and response to a wide range of security incidents. The ARC oversees the protection of more than 750 operational assets, including over 600 intruder and fire systems and in excess of 4,000 cameras.

You will

Monitor security systems, respond to emergency calls, and take appropriate action in line with established procedures.

Have strong observational skills which are essential, particularly during periods of heightened activity.

Be expected to remain calm and professional when handling emergency situations, reviewing sensitive imagery, or supporting individuals who may be distressed.

You will have

• Clear and effective communication, along with strong interpersonal skills
• Excellent attention to detail, focus, and a commitment to high standards of customer service
• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to multitask and maintain concentration over extended periods
• Sound judgement and the ability to assess and respond to situations under pressure
• Good IT proficiency, including experience with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn CCTV and alarm-handling systems
• Previous experience with security systems is beneficial, though not essential.
