Job summary

SSEN Distribution, part of the SSE group, are recruiting for an Automation technician responsible for installation/maintenance and fault repair of remotely controlled switchgear and communications systems up to 11kV. Travel across locations is required; a company vehicle may be provided.

location: Melksham, Swindon, Andover or Oxford

Salary: £45,452 - £54,311 + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Onsite

The Region are currently recruiting for an Automation technician who will be responsible for the installation/maintenance & daily fault repair of remotely controlled switchgear and associated equipment including all communications systems that support this within the electrical distribution up to 11kv.

You Will Be
  • Responsible for installing and commissioning automation schemes.
  • Monitoring and supervise contractors throughout the Ridgeway region
  • Fault finding, repairing and maintaining automation defects on a daily basis, using multiply manufacturer equipment to assist with this.
  • Responsible for maintaining and installing automation electrical equipment on the electricity network up to 11,000 volts, ensuring works are completed within specific time frames and the network is restored to normal operation as soon as possible. This will also include emergency response to fault scenarios.
  • Safety is a key priority at SSE and throughout everything you do you will adhere to safety policies and procedures.
You Will Have
  • The ability to effectively manage your own work program.
  • To learn and develop your role, having knowledge of the automation currently installed.
  • SSEN operational authorisations CAT 1,2,4,5, and 7.
  • Be motivated to work alone and within a team.
  • Training will be given for CAT 4E, CAT 7 and automation installations if required.

This role involves travel across various locations to support business needs. To enable you to fulfil these responsibilities, as a role requirement, the company will provide access to a vehicle for work-related travel.

The requirement will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, and if the company car policy criteria are met, there will be an opportunity to join the company car scheme. Provision of a company car or cash allowance does not form part of the contractual terms and conditions of employment for this role.

A valid driving licence is essential.
