Job summary

MAG Manchester Airports Group is recruiting for an Airfield Safety & Compliance Officer to ensure safe, efficient airside operations at East Midlands Airport. The role acts as a bridge between operational teams, partners and regulators, promoting safety and compliance with aviation standards.

The successful candidate will have airfield operations or safety-critical experience, strong procedural knowledge, and the ability to investigate incidents.

Qualifications

• Experience in airfield operations or safety critical environments.
• Experience implementing operational procedures to ensure safety.
• Experience carrying out investigations into incidents.
• Must hold a full UK driving licence.
• Must be capable of obtaining CTC level security clearance.
• Must be able to obtain an Airside Driving Permit and related medicals.
• Must hold or be able to obtain a firearms licence.

Responsibilities

• Provide airside safety briefings and training to external contractors, service partners and staff.
• Act as liaison during disruptions or emergencies to ensure clear communication and resolution.
• Ensure airside environment and baggage docks are clean and FOD free.
• Undertake aircraft marshalling using ICAO standard signals.
• Monitor all aircraft movements for safe and efficient operations.
• Provide Follow Me guidance and document safety issues per procedures.
• Respond to incidents, collect evidence, and conduct airside safety investigations.
• Escalate findings to the Airfield Operations Duty Manager for action.
• Monitor wildlife hazards and implement the Wildlife Hazard Management Plan.
• Supervise third-party operations for safety, environmental and operational standards.
• Coordinate and manage airside activities to support turnaround and on-time performance.
• Respond to incidents such as fuel spills, FOD, and emergencies with prompt action.
• Ensure operation during adverse weather via contingency plans.
• Manage airside projects and supervise contractors.
• Build relationships with airlines, ground handlers and emergency services.
