Job summary

Customs Support Group in the United Kingdom seeks an AI engineer to lead development and customization of our AI stack for the market. You will design, test and implement practical agentic AI solutions on top of foundation models, with a strong emphasis on reliability for operations staff handling customs declarations.

You will collaborate with Operations, Transformation, IT and Group teams to translate business needs into scalable, compliant solutions while ensuring privacy and AI governance

Qualifications

• 1–2 years AI/automation engineering experience with usable AI features.
• Strong Python and SQL with production code ownership.
• Experience integrating large language models into production systems.
• Hands-on with at least one cloud AI platform (Azure AI, AWS Bedrock, or Google Vertex).
• Solid backend fundamentals: APIs, data pipelines, testing, CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Develop and customize AI solutions from prototype to production ownership.
• Learn and apply generative AI to build agents that impact the business.
• Identify automation opportunities across customs and processes and scope them honestly.
• Design AI solutions with retrieval, tool-calling, and structured extraction.
• Own evaluation: define success metrics before shipping and monitor impact.
• Manage pilots and implementations with clear kill/scale criteria.
• Monitor cost, latency, and business impact of AI solutions.
• Collaborate with Operations, IT, Group teams and partners.
• Contribute to privacy, security and AI governance, including EU AI Act documentation.
