Job summary

Customs Support Group in the United Kingdom seeks an AI engineer to lead the development and customization of its AI stack for market deployment. You will design, test and implement practical agentic AI solutions on top of foundation models for document understanding, retrieval and end-to-end workflows.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years AI engineering, software engineering or intelligent automation experience, including LLM or AI features used by real users.
• Strong Python and SQL with production code ownership.
• Experience integrating large language models into production systems — prompt design, retrieval-augmented generation, structured output and graceful failure handling.
• Practical experience with at least one major cloud AI platform (Azure AI, AWS Bedrock or Google Vertex).
• Solid full stack backend fundamentals — APIs, data pipelines, testing, CI/CD.
• Strong communication skills — working with operations staff who are experts in customs.
• Professional fluency in English.

Responsibilities

• Develop and customise AI solutions from prototype to production ownership.
• Self-learn to use generative AI to build agents that improve business impact.
• Identify automation and decision-support opportunities across customs processes and size them before building.
• Design solutions with retrieval, tool calling, structured extraction and agentic workflows.
• Own evaluation criteria and ensure changes meet quality before shipping.
