Job summary

DeepMind Technologies Limited seeks a biologist/microbiologist SME for Google’s CBRNE team within the Responsible Frontier AI Research program. You will evaluate and mitigate safety risks of frontier AI models in biology, focusing on dual-use concerns and mitigation strategies.

The role combines biology expertise with AI safety, model evaluation, and collaboration with cross-disciplinary engineers and policy specialists to ensure responsible innovation.

Qualifications

• PhD in Wet-Lab Virology, Microbiology, Biology, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3 years of wet-lab experience with dual-use research, high-consequence pathogens, or biological toxins.
• Experience utilizing LLMs or narrow-use AI models to analyze and mitigate biological risks.
• Authored peer-reviewed publications across microbiology, virology, host-pathogen interactions, protein biochemistry, or immunology.

Responsibilities

• Test, evaluate, and mitigate harmful capabilities of frontier AI models in the biology domain.
• Design, develop and execute biology evaluations, assessments, frameworks, and red-teaming strategies for AI model safety and mitigations.
• Collaborate with CBRNE/Responsibility engineers to prevent harmful outputs while maintaining scientific utility.
• Partner with experts in CBRN, science, AI ethics, policy and safety.
• Support development and communication of Google’s CBRNE safety policy to leadership and external stakeholders.
