Google DeepMind is seeking a research engineer for the Biosecurity Initiative to design and implement ML methods that mitigate biological risks. You will collaborate with scientists and engineers across the initiative to prototype and scale AI research with strong software engineering practices.

The role emphasizes publishing research, supporting product development, and shaping the data curation and infrastructure roadmap for biosecurity, in partnership with universities and the wider AI safety

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computational Biology, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience with machine learning algorithms and tools (TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• PhD degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computational Biology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsabilités

• Design and implement novel algorithms and ML methods for biosecurity research questions.
• Contribute to pioneering AI and biosecurity research supporting publications and product development.
• Collaborate with researchers and engineers to prototype, experiment, and scale AI research using best software practices.
• Contribute to the design of biological datasets, evaluation methodologies, and infrastructure for research hypotheses.
• Synthesize complex research findings into clear, actionable reports for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
