Job summary

Biller Genie in Belfast, Northern Ireland, seeks an Engineering Manager to line manage engineers across multiple pods, champion AI-assisted development, and align work with regulatory payments standards.

You will coach teams, drive LEAN improvements, maintain security, and collaborate with Product and Architecture to translate business goals into deliverable plans while hiring talent.

Qualifications

• BSc or MSc in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent experience.
• 1–2 years of direct line management experience of software engineers with performance reviews and career development.
• 5+ years hands-on development with C# and .NET.
• Agentic engineering tools (Claude Code/Codex/Cursor) used in daily work.
• Sound judgement on AI-generated code quality, security and maintainability.
• Proven track record delivering production software with CI/CD, automated tests and peer reviews.
• Experience coaching engineers and retaining high performers fairly.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to explain trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong knowledge of software architecture and design patterns.
• Experience with Azure and cloud technologies.
• Right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day line management for engineers across multiple pods, including 1:1s and performance management.
• Lead adoption of agentic engineering tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) across pods.
• Champion specification as the primary engineering artefact and ensure clear unit definitions.
• Set and uphold quality, security, and code-review standards for AI-assisted delivery in a regulated payments env.
• Coach engineers to work with AI, develop context engineering and task decomposition skills.
• Use delivery and quality data to assess AI impact and act on findings.
• Drive LEAN-inspired continuous improvement to remove waste in planning and releases.
• Collaborate with Product, Architecture and Engineering leadership to translate goals into plans.
• Remove blockers and provide clarity, tooling, and support for teams to deliver.
• Stay hands-on and engage in architecture discussions and code reviews with credibility.
• Lead hiring, assessing candidates' ability to work with AI tools and raise the team bar.
• Perform other duties as required.
