Job summary

Hastings Direct is looking for an automation tester to advance AI-enabled test automation and ensure high-quality software delivery in a collaborative, cross-disciplinary sprint team. You will craft AI-assisted tests, write clear prompts, and review AI outputs for accuracy.

You will contribute to backlog management, define acceptance criteria with Gherkin, and work with Java/JS/TS/C# code, Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, and API tools like SoapUI or Postman. Hybrid UK role.

Qualifications

• Curious mindset to understand systems, customer needs, and technical challenges.
• Collaborate on Agile sprint teams (Scrum, Kanban, Safe).
• Confident in sprint ceremonies: stand-ups, planning, retrospectives, 3-amigos, backlog elaboration.
• Familiar with backlog management in Jira or Octane.
• Familiar with test case management in Octane or X-Ray.
• Able to write acceptance criteria using Gherkin for automated tests.
• Strong coding skills for automated tests in Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, or C#.
• Comfortable with GitHub for source control.
• Skilled in UI automation with Selenium, Playwright or Cypress.
• Able to implement API tests with SoapUI or Postman.

Responsibilities

• Leverage AI tools to accelerate test automation while maintaining high standards of quality and reliability.
• Use AI tools to support development and maintenance of test automation and test cases to improve productivity, quality and delivery outcomes.
• Create clear prompts to obtain useful results from AI tools and review AI outputs for accuracy and relevance.
• Apply AI in line with security, privacy, and responsible usage standards, including cost considerations.
• Work as an individual collaborator on sprint teams alongside colleagues across disciplines.
• Participate in sprint ceremonies; share updates and blockers in daily standups, and assist planning and retrospectives.
• Ensure user stories are captured according to your teams’ definition of ready.
