Job summary

Phlo is seeking an Engineering Manager in Glasgow to lead engineers across multiple cross-functional squads, shaping delivery, raising standards and driving impact for patients, partners and the business.

You will lead the shift toward AI-native engineering, fostering fast, high-quality releases while maintaining safety and reliability in healthcare technology. This role requires hands-on leadership, strong communication and a commitment to regular Glasgow collaboration.

Qualifications

• Experience leading engineering teams to high performance
• Conviction that AI changes how engineering teams work and a desire to lead that change
• Urgency with judgement, moving fast while keeping the team aligned
• High standards with constructive feedback to help people improve
• Strong engineering background, credible in code reviews and technical debates, ideally full-stack web
• Whole-company view, choosing pragmatic options over perfect technical solutions
• Clear communication from delivery risks to career conversations with engineers
• Willingness to be in the Glasgow office regularly to build team culture

Responsibilities

• Lead engineers across cross-functional squads, setting pace, standards and results
• Reshape squad work around AI tooling and measure impact on speed and quality
• Deliver in small, frequent releases and improve cycle time
• Hire strong engineers and coach them to perform at their best
• Focus efforts for patients, partners and revenue and balance trade-offs
• Own delivery for squads, collaborate with Product Owners and Principal Engineers
• Own engineering practices and production systems, including code review, testing, release and incident learning
• Remain hands-on by reviewing code and pairing with engineers
• Work across stack: TypeScript, React, Next.js, Vite, Playwright, Node, Koa, Postgres, Kubernetes, GCP
