Job summary

Datatonic, Newcastle-based, seeks a highly organized Legal Counsel to join our internal legal function. You will lead commercial agreements, manage the central contract database, and accelerate review workflows using AI.

You will collaborate with sales, finance, and delivery, applying GDPR, compliance, and governance expertise to drive operational efficiency while supporting rapid growth. The role requires 3–6 years PQE in a fast-paced tech environment and a proactive, hands-on approach.

Qualifications

• Qualified Solicitor with 3–6 years PQE gained in a top-tier law firm or fast-paced in-house tech environment.
• Proven track record of independently negotiating complex commercial tech or professional services agreements.
• Hands-on experience implementing or maintaining standardised contract management frameworks, database structures, and repositories.
• Keen desire to apply legal principles practically in an in-house context.
• Hands-on proficiency with generative AI tools (or commitment to mastering AI prompt engineering and tech-driven workflows).
• Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Passion for technology and leveraging generative AI tools to build playbooks and optimise legal processes.

Responsibilities

• Oversee our central contract repository, establishing robust post-signature lifecycles and renewal management.
• Drive end-to-end drafting, negotiation, and risk mitigation for MSAs, NDAs, and DPAs.
• Design review playbooks, prompt structures, and automated workflows using AI tools to streamline redlining and risk identification.
• Provide pragmatic, solution-oriented legal advice across employment, data protection, compliance, and governance.
• Serve as the contact point for sales, finance, and delivery on commercial terms and contract governance.
