Job summary

IO Associates is seeking an AI Assurance Consultant for a defence-focused contract in the UK. You will work with clients to validate, test, and verify mission-critical AI and autonomous systems, ensuring safety, ethics, and regulatory compliance before deployment.

The role requires experience in AI assurance and governance, plus active UK Security Clearance (SC). The position is hybrid, with client-site work in the UK Defence sector and a 6-month duration at a rate of £575 per day.

Qualifications

• Experience in AI assurance, validation, auditing, or safety-critical systems engineering.
• Background in UK defence, national security, or highly regulated safety-critical sectors.
• Understanding of algorithmic risk, model evaluation, and governance frameworks.
• Active UK Security Clearance (SC) at minimum.

Role Overview

We're partnering with a specialist defence consultancy to bring in an experienced AI Assurance Consultant. You'll be working directly with defence clients to evaluate, test, and validate mission-critical artificial intelligence and autonomous systems, making sure they meet stringent safety, ethical, and regulatory standards before deployment.

What You'll Be Doing

• Model Validation & Testing: Design and execute validation frameworks to test the reliability, robustness, and security of machine learning models and AI-driven defence capabilities.
• Risk & Compliance: Assess AI systems against Ministry of Defence (MOD) ethical principles, governance frameworks, and high-stakes operational compliance requirements.
• Independent Oversight: Provide trusted, objective advice on algorithmic bias, data integrity, and failure modes in complex, secure environments.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with technical teams, defence officials, and senior leadership to translate complex AI risks into clear, actionable insights.

What We Are Looking For

• Proven experience in AI assurance, validation, auditing, or safety-critical systems engineering.
