Description
AI and Automation Developer

Department IT - AI and Automation

Reports to Head of AI and Automation

Location Manchester

Salary Dependent on experience

Type Permanent, full-time

About us

Antony Hodari Solicitors is a legal practice providing services from its offices in Manchester and Liverpool city centres. We are investing in new technology, AI and automation to support the next phase of growth

The AI and Automation team builds and runs the internal systems that sit around Proclaim, our core case management platform, and connect it to CRM, telephony, messaging and AI tools.

The role

We are looking for an AI and Automation developer to join our expanding team to help design, build and support our internal platform. Proclaim is the firm's core case management system. Alongside Proclaim, you will work across desktop applications, APIs, SQL Server, background processes and third-party integrations.

This is a hands-on role. You will own work from requirements through to production. You will be expected to use AI coding tools to plan, scaffold and deliver development tasks while applying strong engineering judgement to review, test and refine the output before it goes live. This is primarily focused on developing AI processes that integrate with proclaim rather than traditional proclaim development.

What you will work on

The work is a mix of new development, improvement of live processes, and support of systems already in production with a heavy focus on using AI and automation tools.

  • Proclaim, the firm's core case management system. Understanding how it works, and being able to manage data in and out of it
  • Internal middleware system
  • Databases, APIs and background processes that sit around Proclaim and other business systems.
  • Integration and automation that connect Proclaim to the wider IT suite.
Key responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain and improve the firm’s processes through the use of AI tools whilst maintaining data within proclaim.
  • Translate operational requirements and user journeys into working software, agreeing scope and priorities with users and managers.
  • Develop across the stack: React/TypeScript interfaces, Electron desktop behaviour, Python APIs, Node.js workers, and SQL.
  • Design, change and maintain SQL Server data models that other systems depend on, with care for existing live data.
  • Build and maintain integrations with third-party products via REST APIs and webhooks.
  • Use AI coding agents to move quickly on complex, multi-step tasks, while taking full ownership of the result - including correctness, edge cases, security and maintainability.
  • Design and maintain controls for AI-driven processes, including evaluation, guardrails and human oversight.
  • Test changes properly before release.
  • Support desktop and API releases, including versioning, GitHub Actions builds and go-live checks.
  • Put in place monitoring, logging and alerting for APIs, integrations and AI workflows so failures and quality issues can be identified and resolved.
  • Investigate, debug and audit production issues across APIs, integrations, data and user-facing tools. Take ownership through to resolution or a clear escalation.
  • Work to agreed schedules and business priorities, managing more than one workstream at a time.
Essential skills and experience.
  • Strong fundamental understanding of data structures
  • Working knowledge of Proclaim. How cases work, workflows, screens, import/export capabilities
  • Solid relational database skills: writing, reading and debugging SQL. T-SQL / SQL Server is strongly preferred.
  • Experience building and consuming REST APIs and webhooks, including dealing with failures, retries and inconsistent third-party behavior.
  • Comfortable working across front end and back end rather than a single layer.
  • Practical experience using AI development tools to deliver real work, with the judgement to question, correct and test generated code rather than shipping it blindly.
  • Strong debugging and auditing skills. Able to trace issues across UI, APIs, databases, integrations and AI workflows.
  • Experience of monitoring, logging and alerting so problems and quality issues can be spotted and resolved.
  • Experience designing and maintaining controls for AI-driven processes, including evaluation, guardrails and human oversight.
  • Clear written and spoken communication with both technical colleagues and non-technical operational users.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise, and take a piece of work from first conversation to a stable release.
Desirable skills and experience

These are some desirable skills but not essential

  • React and TypeScript
  • Electron or other desktop application development
  • Node.js
  • Python web APIs (FastAPI, Flask or similar)
  • SQL Server: schema design, views, stored procedures, indexing and query performance
  • n8n or similar workflow / orchestration tools
  • CRM integrations
  • Git, GitHub, and CI/CD (GitHub Actions or similar)
  • Windows desktop packaging, auto-update or installer-based release
  • Voice AI, conversational AI, SMS or WhatsApp, Document Analysis
  • Legal sector experience, particularly housing conditions, environmental protection or litigation
  • Windows, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Amazon Workspaces
The person
  • Curious about how operational processes actually work, not only how the code is structured.
  • Looks for continuous improvement and will say when something in production is fragile.
  • Calm and practical when diagnosing live issues.
  • Detail‑minded: small mistakes in this environment can mean the wrong client being called, messaged or progressed.
  • Works well in a small team and is comfortable owning work without a large supporting engineering organisation around them.
  • Commercially aware enough to understand why a change matters to the business, not only how to implement it.
