Job description

We are seeking toappoint a motivated playworker for our after school club service. Our aim is toprovide safe, creative and stimulating activities in a welcomingenvironment.The suitable candidate will ideally hold a childcarequalification and have some experience of working with children in a similarsetting, although training and support will be offered. We are also looking forsomeone who is friendly, approachable and motivated who will ensure that playmeets the full range of children's individual and group needs.

MainPurpose of the Job:
  • To provide a stableand secure environment for all children using the establishment, which meetstheir social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs.
  • To work with otherstaff, to offer support to parents/carers who are making use of theestablishment.
  • To work as part ofteam of staff, who collectively contribute to providing positive experiencesfor young children and their families, in a safe, nurturing and stimulatingenvironment.
Main Duties:
  • To provide,after-school care for children aged 3-11, until collected by parents/carers.
  • To provide astimulating environment through play and other activities, in which allchildren can interact and develop socially, emotional, intellectually, andphysically.
  • To work as a fullmember of a team in the operation of the establishment to ensure good practicesin relation to childcare are maintained.
  • To plan and organiseindividual and group programmes in partnership with children, parents/carer andensure that all daily activities effectively meet the development needs of thechildren.
  • To guide and assist in each child’s language development, giving extra help to children withdifficulties.
  • To assist in choosingsuitable equipment to provide children with a stimulating environment and the skills to acquire confidence and independence.
  • To be responsible for ensuring a safe play environment, checking materials and equipment for defectsand ensuring that centre users are familiar with the fire drill and evacuationprocedure.
  • To support thechildren with feeding and toileting if necessary.
  • To administer basicfirst aid for minor incidents.
  • To participate in providing a happy and relaxed environment in which all parents and carers can comfortably involve themselves and be valued and respected.
  • To support and encourage parents/carers to share in the care and education of their children.
  • To be aware of childprotection procedures and identify to appropriate senior officers children atrisk
  • To participate in training courses and be able to pass on knowledge gained to other staff,parents, students and other relevant people.
