Job summary

Wantage Church of England Primary School is seeking a warm, caring after-school wraparound care assistant with a Level 3 qualification to join the Extended Provision team. You’ll help create a welcoming, safe and engaging environment for children after the school day, working with the Extended Provision Supervisor and staff to run activities and meals.

Qualifications

• Hold a relevant Level 3 childcare, playwork or early-years qualification.
• Have experience of working with or caring for children.
• Be able to build strong and appropriate relationships with children.
• Have a good understanding of children’s development and the importance of play.
• Be able to work effectively as part of a team.
• Be dependable, organised and able to use your initiative.
• Have effective communication skills.
• Be able to create a safe, positive and inclusive environment.
• Have a good understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
• Be able to support positive behaviour in line with the school’s guidelines.
• Demonstrate good food hygiene practices and follow the school’s health and safety policies.

Responsibilities

• Safeguarding children throughout the after-school period and following the school’s safeguarding procedures.
• Supporting the Extended Provision Supervisor with the day-to-day running of the provision.
• Planning, preparing and delivering a varied range of age-appropriate play and recreational activities.
• Engaging positively with children and supporting their development through play.
• Supervising children and ensuring their safety at all times.
• Promoting positive behaviour in line with the school’s policy.
• Assisting with registers and safe collection by authorised adults.
• Preparing and serving meals and snacks following hygiene procedures.
• Setting up, tidying and storing activities and equipment safely.
• Communicating with children, parents, carers and colleagues professionally.
• Reporting safeguarding concerns or changes to wellbeing to the supervisor.
• Following school safeguarding, health and safety and confidentiality policies.
