Job summary

Volant Autonomy seeks a Software Engineer to join our Bath team and help deliver autonomous aviation software systems. You will work across the full software lifecycle, influence architecture, and deploy to on‑prem and AWS environments.

Hybrid working in Bath with core days on-site and optional remote days, plus opportunities to mentor juniors and collaborate with engineers and data scientists. Involves UK and international projects in a highly regulated context.

Qualifications

Knowledge of Python and software engineering best practices
Familiarity with APIs, communication protocols and data formats
Ability to design and implement integration and system testing
Experience with modern software tooling and software architecture knowledge
Willingness to mentor junior team members
Background in UAVs or aerospace systems
Experience with on‑prem and cloud deployments (AWS)
Experience in high assurance or secure environments
Understanding of relevant regulations and guidance
Experience using Docker Compose, Kubernetes or equivalent

Responsibilities

Ensure the successful integration of Volant Autonomy technology with customers and project partners
Attend client sites to carry out integration work (~2 days per month)
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines that automate integration and testing
Debug and resolve technical issues
Work with the team to identify dependencies early, manage deadlines and prioritise workload
