Qualifications

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in the aerospace industry.
  • UK Right to Work - without Sponsorship.
  • Competence in compliance with EASA, FAA, UK CAA design requirements.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you are responsible for the development of designs and certification activities for projects assigned to you. This includes development of the required design outputs (models, drawings, reports, documents etc) in readiness for approval as tasked by your team lead or delegate, within the defined project budgets for the tasks assigned. For this role you will work closely with the Mechanical Design Team Lead to understand project requirements and design objectives, as well as participate in design reviews together to ensure alignment with project goals. In addition, you will work closely with cross-functional teams, including project managers and engineers, to ensure designs are feasible and meet technical requirements. This collaborative dynamic helps ensure that the design process is both innovative and aligned with the company's goals.

What you'll be doing

  • Development of designs and/or design artefacts in accordance with EASA Design Handbook in line with the scope, schedule and budget of assigned projects as part of the project team, working collaboratively with other members of the design organisation, manufacturing and installation team and suppliers.
  • Develop designs that are compliant with the requirements of the project, including but not limited to compliance with the customer specification, functional requirements, appropriate certification requirements, established design rules, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Resolution of any technical issues of assigned projects within the team or with production organisations, maintenance organisations and suppliers.
  • Where requested, liaison with the Project Manager of the assigned project for delivery of design, certification, manufacture and installation elements of the project in line with your allocated task budget and schedule, proactively providing feedback on the progress and status of the assigned tasks.
  • As part of continued development, you may be assigned as Project Lead by your team lead for discrete projects. During these times you will assume responsibility for:
  • Development and promulgation of Project plan and Kick-off Briefs as directed by your team lead or Program Manager.
  • Report project progress, issues and resolutions to the team lead and Program Manager on regular basis.
  • Achieving high quality and timely service delivery.
  • Coordination of all project elements in accordance with the established project scope, budget and schedule.
  • Complying with all Nova WHS policies and Safety Management System and procedures.
  • Carry out other tasks when required or as directed by your team lead or supervisor(s).

Essential Skills and Experience

  • UK Right to Work - without Sponsorship
  • Tertiary education or suitable professional engineering qualification in the following areas based on discipline:
  • Aeronautical/aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering
  • Competence in the following software/design tools:
  • SolidWorks
  • AutoCAD
  • MS Office suite
  • Competence in one or more of the following technical domains:
  • Technical drawing (including dimensioning and layout), thin shell structures, composite and composite / metallic sandwich structures, structural dynamics, stress analysis including finite element analysis, awareness of fatigue and damage tolerance, aerospace stability and control, aerospace material selection and design for manufacture.
  • Capability to carry out detailed review of design work for suitability and optimisation, including initial sizing calculations.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in the aerospace industry, preferably working in EASA, FAA, UK CAA (or equivalent) design organisations.
  • Awareness of civil regulatory requirements related to design (e.g. (EU) 748/2012, CS-23, CS-25, CS-27 & CS-29).
  • High level of verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing.
  • Flexible, positive and committed team member who works to a very high standard.
