8 DAC Beachcroft Buildings, or 8DB, is the advocacy team of the DAC Beachcroft group, founded and developed by industry-leading barristers to support an in-house advocacy model. The aim of 8DB is to bring the services of the Bar directly to our clients. Our team of barristers and advocates, centrally clerked, works with both internal and external clients to deliver advisory, drafting, and advocacy services that might otherwise require instructing chambers. Our barristers possess various areas of expertise, including:
  • Personal Injury
  • Clinical negligence
  • Occupational health/disease
  • Inquests & Regulatory
  • ADR
  • Costs
  • Employment
What you will do
We understand that engaging, challenging drafting and court work is hard to find before pupillage. Few employed opportunities offer supervision and training from barristers, proximity to clients, and daily courtroom advocacy exposure. This role provides all that and more.
  • Initially, your role will involve a tailored training program to familiarize you with procedures, law, and tactics relevant to county court work, followed by a shadowing period learning from experienced team members through drafting, case preparation, and attendance, with reporting back on cases.
  • Once signed off, you will undertake drafting, advisory, and court work under supervision, supported by a network guiding your confidence and skills in handling instructions.
  • After approximately six months, we expect your active engagement across our work, gaining familiarity with daily operations. Depending on your rights of audience, there is scope to develop the complexity and scope of your work.
Who you are
We seek individuals pursuing a career at the Bar, passionate about advocacy. Specifically:
  • You must have completed both an LLB (or equivalent) and the BPTC (or equivalent).
While not required, we welcome candidates with:
  • Previous advocacy experience (e.g., self-employed agency roles); and/or
  • Previous paralegal/litigation experience in our practice areas.
What's in it for you?
  • High flexibility and work-life balance - details here
  • A comprehensive remuneration package, including private medical insurance, income protection, and discounted gym memberships among other benefits
  • Opportunities for growth and professional development, including funding
  • In-person and remote social events
  • Participation in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives
We are committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace aligned with our cultural principles: Determined, Clear, Creative, and Supportive. If you're excited about this role and our culture, but your experience doesn't perfectly match every qualification, we encourage you to apply. You might be the ideal candidate for this or other roles!
