Job summary

Worcestershire County Council is seeking an Advanced Public Health Practitioner to shape and support Worcestershire's suicide prevention agenda. You will work across NHS partners, local authorities and community organisations to deliver prevention interventions and system-wide improvements.

The role involves coordinating the Suicide Prevention Partnership Group, real-time surveillance, and working with lived experience to reduce inequalities. 35 hours per week, permanent contract.

Qualifications

• Experience in public health, health improvement, mental health, commissioning or partnership working.

The Role:

Advanced Public Health Practitioner (Suicide Prevention)

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Advanced Public Health Practitioner to shape and support Worcestershire's suicide prevention agenda. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of local people by working across a wide range of organisations to reduce suicide, prevent self-harm and improve mental health and wellbeing outcomes for all ages. Part of the role involves working closely with the Integrated Care Board (ICB) to oversee and deliver a suicide prevention programme across Herefordshire and Worcestershire including delivery of the Orange Button Scheme.

You will work as part of a Public Health team committed to working with communities by taking asset-based approaches and involving those with lived experience.

The successful candidate will work closely with NHS partners, local authority services, community and voluntary organisations, education settings and people with lived experience to deliver evidence-based suicide prevention interventions and system-wide improvements. This will involve co-ordinating Worcestershire’s Suicide Prevention Partnership Group and Worcestershire’s Suicide Audit Group. You will undertake community interventions and joint public health working around a range of social factors such as domestic abuse, social isolation and workplace health.

This position is responsible for the management and oversight of a real time suspected suicide surveillance system and will be expected to lead on co-ordinating system responses in the event of possible suicide clusters. You will use public health intelligence, insight and engagement to identify need, reduce inequalities and support the development of effective prevention initiatives across Worcestershire.

The role requires a skilled practitioner who can work collaboratively and sensitively to influence partners, translate evidence into action and coordinate collaborative approaches to complex public health challenges. The post sits within and is supported by a wider Public Health Portfolio and contributes to Worcestershire's strategic ambitions to improve emotional wellbeing, build resilience and create supportive communities.
