Applications are invited for a HCPC Registered Advanced Biomedical Scientist in Clinical Immunology. The successful candidate must have HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist and hold an MSc or equivalent postgraduate qualification in Biomedical Science. Experience in team leadership, quality management, and/or service improvement would be advantageous for this role.

Our current instrumentation includes: Bioplex, Quantalyser slide processors, BNII nephelometers, Sebia Capillarys and Hydrasys electrophoresis systems, Phadia Immunocap 250, DS2 ELISA, and Blot One.
The role involves delivering training, troubleshooting analyzers, and managing quality systems. Knowledge of immunofluorescence slide interpretation, gel and capillary electrophoresis, and a range of immunology analytical instruments is required. The candidate should be confident in leading a team and possess strong communication skills.
Additional responsibilities include maintaining UKAS accreditation, staff training and supervision, managing staffing, ensuring analyzer maintenance, troubleshooting, stock control, and adhering to standard operating procedures.
The Immunology Department at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust provides regional diagnostic and clinical immunology services. The laboratory is relocating to a new purpose-built facility on the St James site in summer 2025, coinciding with a new Managed Service Contract and LIMS implementation.

Principal duties include performing complex clinical procedures, using laboratory equipment safely, managing data via LIMS, leading a team, developing quality control materials, validating work, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The role requires independent working, effective communication with clinicians, workload management, and contribution to service development and improvement initiatives.
Leadership duties encompass supporting senior management, managing staff, implementing changes, and participating in appraisals and governance procedures. The role also involves budget awareness, reporting, and fostering continuous professional development.
Quality management responsibilities include maintaining documentation, training, competency assessments, audits, and leading service improvement projects. The post holder must ensure a safe working environment, manage results quality, and contribute to the evaluation of new technologies and procedures.
Additional duties include maintaining patient confidentiality, adhering to departmental policies, and undertaking other tasks as assigned by the line manager. The role demands high dexterity and precision, with ongoing responsibility for technical and leadership competencies.
