Job description

Cumberland Council

Safeguarding Team - Adults

£37,035 - £37,933

Permanent

Cumberland council is looking for three enthusiastic and committed social work practitioners to join the Safeguarding Adults Team, primarily covering Allerdale and Copeland, with support to other areas as needed.

The team fulfils statutory duties under the Care Act 2014 (Section 42), handling safeguarding referrals received via the Single Point of Access. As a practitioner, you'll lead safeguarding enquiries, case conferences, and risk assessments in collaboration with adults at risk and key partners.

This pivotal role involves managing a caseload, offering safeguarding advice, and fostering strong relationships with external agencies such as police, health services, and the third sector. You'll work from a strengths-based approach to ensure adults are protected from harm, abuse, and neglect.

We're seeking candidates with a passion for safeguarding, strong partnership skills, and ideally experience with the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, and safeguarding principles and procedures.

Duties:

  • Receive referrals from various sources, including family members, healthcare professionals, care providers, police, and concerned individuals. They carefully assess each referral to determine the potential for abuse or neglect.
  • Conduct thorough assessments to gather information about the individual's needs, vulnerabilities, and the nature of the suspected abuse or neglect.
  • Based on the information gathered, assess the level of risk of harm to the individual. They consider factors such as the type of abuse, the individual's vulnerability, and the severity and frequency of the abuse
  • Based on the assessment, develop support plans to protect the individual and address the underlying causes of abuse or neglect.
  • Work closely with the individual, their family, and other professionals to implement the support plan. Monitor progress, make adjustments as needed, and ensure that the individual's safety and well-being are prioritised
  • When there is a suspicion of abuse or neglect, professionals conduct thorough investigations. Statements, medical records, or financial documents.
  • Based on the investigation findings, professionals may refer the case to other agencies, such as the police, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), or the local authority's legal team.
  • Professionals act as advocates for the individual's rights and interests. They ensure that the individual's voice is heard and their wishes are considered in decision-making processes.
  • They empower the individual to understand their rights and make informed choices about their care and support.
  • Professionals work collaboratively with other professionals involved in the individual's care, such as doctors, nurses, care providers, and legal professionals.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • DBS Check - Clear and enhanced
  • Social work qualification
  • Registered on SWE
