About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the team working on the rapid clinical development of vaccines against COVID-19 and other outbreak pathogens including Marburg and Ebola as an Adult Clinical Research Fellow. The team conducts pioneering studies on experimental controlled human challenge studies for bacterial and viral infections and phase I-III studies of experimental vaccines to improve human health.

You will play an important role in vaccine and vaccine-related studies, including those against COVID-19, typhoid, paratyphoid, pneumococcal, RSV, and influenza, in collaboration with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM). You will work within a growing department in the Medical Sciences Division. The Department of Paediatrics is a world leader in child health research, hosting renowned programmes in drug development, gastroenterology, haematology, HIV, immunology, neuroimaging, neuromuscular diseases, and vaccinology. The position is fixed-term for 12 months with potential for extension, subject to funding. The role qualifies for a UK Skilled Worker visa.

About you

This position is suitable for a medical doctor, especially trainees in infectious or tropical diseases, microbiology/virology, immunology, gastroenterology, or internal medicine. It is also suitable for trainees in other specialties, including general practice or those completing core medical training. The research offers opportunities for high-quality publications and further study for higher degrees (MSc/MD/DPhil). Candidates interested in an academic research career will be encouraged to seek independent funding and develop research proposals.

About the department

In addition to the University of Oxford, the Department of Paediatrics offers weekly exercise classes such as yoga and bootcamp, as well as a choir. For staff on work visas, financial assistance for visa renewal fees is available. These activities aim to promote staff wellbeing.
