Job summary

West Sussex County Council is seeking an Administration Officer to deliver a customer-focused and efficient administrative service within the Highways, Transport and Planning directorate. You will prioritise tasks to support team objectives and perform a range of duties from organising meetings to updating council IT systems.

The role requires excellent communication, strong IT and numeracy skills, attention to detail and the ability to produce minutes, reports and financial records.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills to deal with customer enquiries face to face, over the phone or via email.
  • Strong IT skills and a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office to produce meeting minutes, non-standard correspondence and reports, plus processing financial details.

Job description

As an Administration Officer, you will provide a customer focused and efficient administrative service, prioritising your daily tasks in accordance with team requirements and service objectives. You will be responsible for delivering a range of tasks including:

  • Excellent communication skills to deal with customer enquires whether that be face to face, over the phone or via email.
  • Have excellent IT skills and have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Software to be able to produce meeting minutes, non-standard correspondence and reports as well as being able to process financial details and figures.
  • Good numeracy skills to work with figures and data to assist in calculations and data collection.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills so you can analyse specialist information and draw practical conclusions whilst understanding the relevant policies and procedures related to it.
  • Be adaptable and flexible in your approach to the work and have excellent accuracy and attention to detail due to your strong core administrative and office experience. West Sussex County Council is a diverse organisation that provides services to more than 850,000 residents every day.

The Highways, Transport and Planning (HTP) Directorate is part of the Place Services Department of West Sussex County Council. The work of the Directorate includes a wide range of statutory and other functions relating to highways, transport, travel, the countryside, planning, and development. Working across the directorate this role will touch on all aspects of service delivery helping us to deliver a positive experience for users of our services making sure:

  • The right services and infrastructure are delivered in the right place at the right time
