Job description

Our client, HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS), is an agency of the Ministry of Justice. HMCTS provides administrative support for the legal system across England and Wales, ensuring justice works for everyone.

Our justice system defends fundamental rights and freedoms. It is a cornerstone of society and must serve all, from vulnerable individuals to families in crisis, claimants, and businesses. HMCTS is responsible for administering an accessible and efficient justice system.

Our public sector client in Birmingham is seeking an Admin Officer to join their team. This temporary role lasts until March 2026, with potential for extension based on business needs. It is a full-time position, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexible start times between 7am and 10am, and finish times between 3pm and 7pm. The pay rate starts at £12.36 per hour, increasing to £12.53 after week 12, paid weekly.

The office is located at B16 8PE. Initially, the role will be fully office-based for approximately six weeks. After training, it will transition to a hybrid model.

This role involves supporting tribunal administrative tasks, including telephone work. Responsibilities include:

  1. Reviewing correspondence from parties to proceedings
  2. Deciding whether to apply standard processes or refer to legal officers/judiciary
  3. Preparing papers and files for Tribunal
  4. Creating and updating in-house computer systems
  5. Monitoring email inboxes, filtering, linking, and delivering messages to relevant teams or individuals
  6. Using internal case management systems
  7. Performing ad hoc tasks such as photocopying, scanning, and filing
  8. Handling inbound calls to support inquiries and provide signposting

The ideal candidate will have 12-18 months of administrative experience and excellent customer service skills.
