The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is hiring enthusiastic Clerical Assistants for the Cardio-respiratory Department. Candidates will manage patient appointments, assist in administrative duties, and work collaboratively within a busy healthcare environment. Ideal candidates will have experience in public-facing roles and good IT skills.
The Cardio-respiratory Department is a team of Highly Specialist/Specialist Physiologists and Healthcare Scientists performing a variety of Cardiology and Respiratory Diagnostic tests. As part of our admin team, you will play an essential role as the first point of contact for our patients. Your responsibilities include maintaining a continuous diary of appointments, prioritising patients for clinical and national targets, and collaborating with physiologists to manage patient and clinic prioritisation. You will also handle appointment-related phone calls and assist staff both within and outside the trust.
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic and self-motivated Clerical Assistants to join our busy department. The role is based at each site, with the expectation to work cross-site as needed.
The ideal candidate will have experience dealing with the general public, preferably in a healthcare setting. Good IT skills, professionalism under pressure, a courteous telephone manner, confidence, and initiative are essential. Duties include making and modifying appointments, answering calls, registering and discharging patients on Careflow and CRIS systems, and handling queries from the public and hospital staff.
The Cardio-respiratory Department is busy and fast-paced, requiring our clerical staff to meet demanding targets, making this a pivotal role within our team.

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust provides district general hospital services for nearly half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and mid Wales.
Our main locations are the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shrewsbury. Together, these hospitals have over 700 beds and assessment & treatment trolleys.
Both hospitals offer a broad range of acute services, including emergency care, outpatient services, diagnostics, inpatient medical care, and critical care. The Cardio-respiratory Department operates at both sites and conducts various diagnostic tests for inpatients and outpatients. Some diagnostics are also performed at the Community Diagnostic Centre at Hollinswood House, Stafford Park.
