Job summary

The University of Sheffield invites applications for a Project Engineer - Additive Manufacturing at AMRC North West near Blackburn. You will support research delivery from concept to completion, working with advanced AM equipment and industrial partners to advance manufacturing capabilities.

The role requires a good honours degree in engineering or materials science, hands-on AM experience, and clear communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Have a good honours degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering or materials science (or equivalent AM experience).
  • Understand AM processes and post-processing technologies for AM.
  • Experience with hands-on work in additive manufacturing and related processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyse problems and work to deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Create manufacturing plans, route cards and procedures for AM research.
  • Assist in delivering research projects by experiments, data collection and analysis.
  • Operate additive manufacturing equipment including 3D printers and post-processing.
  • Undertake material characterisation activities (tensile testing, hardness, X-ray CT).
  • Support development and optimisation of AM processes and methods.
  • Ensure work aligns with quality, safety and EHS requirements.
  • Plan and manage workloads to meet project objectives and timescales.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate findings clearly.
