Job summary

The University of Sheffield's AMRC North West facility is seeking a Project Engineer - Additive Manufacturing for a hybrid, full-time role near Blackburn. You will support research projects from concept to completion, applying hands-on AM and advanced manufacturing techniques.

You will operate 3D printers and 5-axis machines, plan experiments, analyse data, and collaborate with industrial partners to deliver high-quality results. Competitive salary and benefits offered.

Qualifications

• Honours degree in mechanical/manufacturing engineering or materials science (or equivalent industrial AM experience).
• Understanding of AM processes.
• Knowledge of post-processing technologies for AM.
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
• Ability to work to deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Create manufacturing plans, route cards and procedures to support AM research activities.
• Assist in delivering research projects by conducting experiments, collecting and analysing data, and contributing to technical reports.
• Operate AM equipment and related technologies (3D printers, 5-axis machines, post-processing) following established procedures.
• Undertake material characterisation activities (tensile testing, hardness testing, CT scanning).
• Support development and optimisation of AM processes through design for AM, monitoring, material characterisation and evaluation.
• Ensure all work complies with quality standards, safe working practices, and EHS requirements.
