Job summary

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is moving towards a single-site emergency hospital, predominantly based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital with responsibilities across both sites. You will lead the Acute Medical Unit, provide expert guidance, and support junior staff while contributing to service development and quality improvement initiatives.

A formal job plan will be agreed with the Clinical Director within 3 months of starting, based on a 10 PA working week, with the possibility

Qualifications

• Leadership experience in acute medicine.
• Teaching and ongoing professional development commitment.
• Ability to work across two hospital sites.
• Collaborative with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Supervise medical admissions and oversee the acute take.
• Lead and support the daily medical handover.
• Drive the acute medical take ensuring timely assessments.
• Ensure national and hospital targets for care and assessment.
• Provide expert guidance and review of complex cases.
• Liaise with ITU/Cardiology/Renal and other subspecialties.
• Coordinate discharge planning with primary care and community services.
