Are you interested in working on a close-knit, collaborative, and knowledgeable actuarial team? Would you like to work in a consulting environment with daily exposure to leaders of Local Government Pension Scheme clients? Do you want to work with client managers and have responsibility for delivering actuarial services to a portfolio of clients? If so, this may be the role for you!

You could be based in any of the following UK offices (Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Epsom, Farnborough, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Manchester, St. Albans), with a mix of home and office working.

Role Responsibilities
  1. Advising Local Government administering authority clients on strategic pensions issues, including funding strategy, employer risk management, and pension accounting disclosures.
  2. Preparing actuarial valuations, funding certificates, funding proposals, and actuarial statements as required under LGPS Regulations.
  3. Ensuring the quality of technical work delivered to clients, including reviewing work from junior team members.
  4. Collaborating on projects with colleagues across consulting, risk management, and investment practices.
  5. Developing intellectual capital to support innovation and efficiency.

The Actuarial Consultant is encouraged to work independently while delivering services and collaborating with a diverse, motivated team. You will have exposure to large, open defined benefit pension scheme clients daily. There are also opportunities to expand into other areas such as governance advice, benefits of the Local Government Pension Scheme, and advising private sector pension trustees.

Skills and Experience
  1. Qualified Actuary or part-qualified with less than one year remaining.
  2. Experience in stakeholder management and client relationships is advantageous.
  3. Relevant industry and consulting experience preferred, but individuals transitioning from non-pension actuarial areas are also welcome.
  4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable leading discussions at senior levels.
  5. Ability to develop colleagues and work within diverse teams.
  6. Attention to detail with strategic thinking capabilities.
