Job summary

The Edinburgh Dungeon, part of Merlin Entertainments, is recruiting theatrical Actors to bring Edinburgh’s gruesome past to life during our Halloween to Christmas period. You could play roles from a bloodthirsty Judge to a member of Sawney Bean’s family, bringing flair and improvisation to scripted stories.

Performances run every 8 to 10 minutes at peak times in compact spaces, demanding stamina and focus. We offer full and part-time contracts with evenings, weekends, and Dungeon Lates events.

Qualifications

• A background in performance and character acting is preferred but not essential if talent is shown.
• Strong characterization skills that would make a statue shudder.
• A voice that commands attention; convincing Scottish accent is a plus.
• Quick script learner with a knack for taking direction.
• An improvisation master who can react to guests and stay cool during chaos.
• Stamina to perform multiple shows with energy and quality.

Responsibilities

Job description

The Edinburgh Dungeon is on the hunt for theatrical Actors to join our twisted cast and help bring Edinburgh’s gruesome past back to life. We are recruiting now for our normally busy Halloween to Christmas period!

We are offering our visitors and guest a 75-minute interactive tour through some of the city’s most delightfully disturbing history, and we are looking for the right talent to help bring our stories to life!

You could find yourself playing a bloodthirsty Judge, the dastardly Torturer, or a member of Sawney Bean’s family. You could even be the ‘Foul Clenger’, or Mary Queen of Scots herself!

Each character has a script, but you’ll need to bring a bit of flair and improvisation to really make them your own. In addition, you will find yourself controlling some proper spooktacular special effects, enhancing the experience of the shows for your colleagues and our guests.

Performances are regular - every 8 to 10 minutes during peak times, so stamina and endurance is key, and you’ll be performing in tight and mysterious spaces.

Flexibility is essential, we are offering full and part-time contracts. This role involves evenings, weekends, and even some late-night shenanigans for our special ‘Dungeon Lates’ events.
