Active Life Lead
Location: Cygnet Woking & Woking Lodge, Surrey Salary: up to £31, 796.25 Hours: 40 hours per week (flexible to support a 7-day service, including evenings and weekends)
About the Role
As Active Life Lead, you will be responsible for leading the delivery of a high-quality Active Life programme across the hospital. Working closely with the multidisciplinary team, you will promote a culture of physical health and wellbeing while supporting service users to achieve their personal fitness, health and lifestyle goals. You will also provide leadership and supervision to Active Life Trainers and Activity Coordinators where applicable, ensuring activities are engaging, safe, therapeutic and tailored to individual needs.
Site Overview
Cygnet Woking/ Woking Lodge is a 94 bedded hospital with a variety of different wards, including two locked high dependency rehabilitation wards (male), two low secure services (male and female), three acute wards (male and two female), and a PICU (female). Our environment has a holistic focus and includes a gym, ADL kitchen, Social Hub, Hair Salon, music studio, patient shop and other therapeutic spaces.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Service Development
- Lead and manage the Active Life service across the hospital.
- Provide supervision, support and line management to the Active Life team.
- Develop strategies to maximise service user engagement in physical activity.
- Build positive partnerships with local leisure centres, sports clubs and community providers.
- Work collaboratively with medical, nursing and therapy teams to enhance physical health provision.
Physical Activity & Wellbeing
- Plan and deliver a diverse programme of individual and group exercise sessions.
- Conduct gym inductions, lifestyle assessments and programme design.
- Support service users to achieve their physical health and wellbeing goals.
- Facilitate on-site and community-based activities and events.
- Adapt activities to meet individual abilities, strengths and rehabilitation goals.
Quality & Governance
- Ensure accurate documentation and timely recording of interventions.
- Complete risk assessments and health and safety checks.
- Maintain high standards of equipment, facilities and service delivery.
- Monitor outcomes and contribute to service development initiatives.
Essential Qualifications
- Level 3 Personal Trainer Qualification.
- GCSE Maths and English Grade C/Level 4 or above (or Functional Skills Level 2 equivalent).
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
- Relevant training related to health, fitness or wellbeing.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience delivering physical activity programmes to individuals and groups.
- Experience motivating people to engage in meaningful activity.
- Strong leadership, organisation and communication skills.
- Ability to plan workloads and manage competing priorities.
- Knowledge of exercise principles, anatomy, physiology and fitness.
- Understanding of health, safety and welfare within a fitness environment.
- Competent IT skills and record keeping abilities.
Desirable Qualifications
- GP Exercise Referral Qualification (or willingness to achieve within 12 months).
- Degree or higher education qualification in a health or social care field.
- Previous line management experience.
- Experience working within mental health, learning disability, rehabilitation or healthcare settings.
