Job summary

Birmingham Housing Association is seeking an Accounts Payable Team Leader to own the purchase ledger, support a junior team member and maintain an efficient finance operation. The role offers a salary of 30,000–35,000 with excellent benefits within a collaborative finance team.

The successful candidate will manage supplier ledgers, chase invoices, and drive improvements across AP processes while building strong stakeholder relationships and providing day-to-day guidance to a Purchase Ledger

Qualifications

• Significant experience within an Accounts Payable, Purchase Ledger, or Transactional Finance environment.
• Team Leader or supervisory experience within a finance function.
• Strong Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the Accounts Payable function, ensuring supplier accounts are accurate and up to date.
• Manage and reconcile supplier ledgers, investigate discrepancies and resolve issues.
• Chase outstanding invoices, credits and queries to maintain a current ledger.
• Build relationships with suppliers, budget holders and internal stakeholders.
• Support and guide a Purchase Ledger Assistant on a day-to-day basis.
• Proactively improve processes, controls and ways of working within AP.
• Act as the go-to person for AP queries and drive resolution.

In this position, you will be:

• Taking ownership of the Accounts Payable function, ensuring supplier accounts are accurate, up to date and well maintained
• Managing and reconciling supplier ledgers, proactively investigating and resolving discrepancies
• Chasing outstanding invoices, credits and queries to maintain a clean and current ledger
• Building strong relationships with suppliers, budget holders and internal stakeholders to resolve issues efficiently
• Supporting and providing day–to–day guidance to a Purchase Ledger Assistant
• Taking a proactive approach to improving processes, controls and ways of working within the AP function
• Acting as the go–to person for Accounts Payable queries, providing clear explanations and ownership of issues through to resolution

• Strong Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs and reporting

• A proactive approach to problem–solving and process improvement
• Experience working in a fast–paced environment and managing competing priorities
