Job summary

IPS Finance is recruiting for a standalone Accountant in Central Leeds to take ownership of the day-to-day finance function.

The role covers purchase and sales ledger invoicing, monthly payroll, bank reconciliations, cash flow and financial reporting, VAT returns and some CIS work. There is scope to shape the role and learn Power BI with external support available.

Qualifications

• Experience managing transactional finance, payroll and VAT.
• Ability to own end-to-end accounting processes with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to develop skills in Power BI and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

• Manage purchase and sales ledger invoicing.
• Run monthly payroll for around 25 staff.
• Perform bank reconciliations and monitor cash flow.
• Prepare sales and financial reports.
• Handle VAT returns and some CIS work.
• Keep accounts accurate and up to date.

Job description

Our client in Central Leeds didn’t exist in 2020, but that hasn’t stopped them establishing themselves in a regulated and well established industry, delivering major projects across the UK.

They are now looking for a standalone Accountant to take ownership of the day to day finance function.

At its core, the role covers the basics:

• Purchase and sales ledger invoicing
• Monthly payroll for around 25 employees
• Bank reconciliations and cash flow
• Sales and financial reporting
• VAT returns
• Some CIS work
• Keeping the accounts accurate and up to date

Beyond that, there is plenty of scope to make the role your own.

The business is forward thinking in its use of technology and already uses Power BI. Experience with Power BI would be great, but it isn’t a deal breaker. They would be equally interested in someone who wants to learn and develop their skills in this area.

You won’t be left completely on your own either. The business has a strong relationship with its external accountants, who are present and available to provide support when needed.

There are probably two types of person who could work well here.

• You might be an experienced Accountant or Bookkeeper who has “been there and done it”, enjoys taking ownership and wants a broad role where you can get on with running the accounts.
• Or, you might be someone earlier in your career who has a good grounding in transactional finance, payroll, VAT and reconciliations, but is ready to step up and take more responsibility for the overall finance function.

Either way, you’ll need to be a self starter. There won’t be a big finance team around you, so this will suit someone comfortable taking ownership, solving problems and working directly with the people running the business.

Salary: £40,000 – £45,000
