Job summary

IPS Group is seeking a hands-on accounts professional for a stand-alone finance role based in West Leeds. You will manage day-to-day bookkeeping and work closely with senior leadership, supporting the business through robust accounts and reporting.

The ideal candidate will have strong Sage 50 experience, be comfortable processing transactions independently, and handle VAT, payroll, and supplier payments. This predominantly office-based position offers ownership of the accounts function.

• Monitor cash flow, margins and costs; identify process improvements.

Job description

This is a standalone, hands-on accounts position with responsibility for the day-to-day finance function through to management accounts. It would suit someone who enjoys being close to the detail and is comfortable processing transactions themselves rather than overseeing a larger finance team.

The role reports directly to the senior leadership team and works closely with colleagues across the wider business.

The business has a long trading history, a stable customer base and operates within a busy commercial environment with a high level of day to day transactions.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the sales and purchase ledgers, including invoice processing, payments, credit notes and reconciliations.
• Complete bookkeeping and maintain accurate accounting records using Sage 50.
• Manage credit control, customer accounts, credit limits and debtor collections.
• Process supplier payments and reconcile supplier accounts, bank accounts and petty cash.
• Prepare monthly profit and loss and balance sheet reporting.
• Complete VAT returns and support payroll, pensions and associated HMRC requirements.
• Manage overseas supplier payments, foreign currency transactions and foreign exchange requirements.
• Monitor cash flow, margins, costs and other key financial information for the Directors.
• Maintain appropriate financial controls and identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and reduce errors.
• Support stock, purchasing and wider commercial administration where this overlaps with the finance function.

Candidate profile

• Recent hands-on experience managing transactional accounts and bookkeeping within an SME environment.
• Strong working knowledge of Sage 50 Accounts and confidence using the system independently.
• Comfortable processing purchase and sales invoices, payments and bank reconciliations as part of the day-to-day role.
• Experience producing accounts through to management accounts level.
• Confident managing credit control and dealing directly with customers and suppliers.
• Experience of VAT, payroll and ideally foreign currency or international supplier payments.
• Well organised and able to prioritise competing deadlines across transactional finance, payments, VAT, payroll and month-end.
• Comfortable working autonomously in a busy, practical environment where some accounting processes remain manual.

Package and working pattern

Salary of £40,000 to £50,000 depending on experience.
This is a West Leeds based position and will suit someone looking for a predominantly office-based role where they can take ownership of the accounts function and work closely with the people running the business.
