Job summary

Hollybank Trustees Ltd in Birmingham is recruiting an Apprentice to join our Accounts team. You will gain your AAT qualification, followed by ACCA, and gain exposure to the full accounts process.

You will work with cloud accounting tools like Xero, QuickBooks or Sage, handling accounts preparation, bookkeeping, VAT returns and client communication within a small team.

Qualifications

• Pursuing AAT qualification with ACCA exposure.
• Basic accounting principles; willingness to learn and apply.
• Proficiency in Excel and financial record-keeping.

Responsibilities

• Accounts preparation for sole traders, partnerships and small companies.
• Bookkeeping, transactions, and account reconciliation.
• VAT returns support and submission assistance.
• Client communication and gathering missing information.
• Administrative duties including filing and document organisation.
• Work with cloud accounting systems such as Xero, QuickBooks or Sage.
• Demonstrates strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
• Confident with Excel and IT systems.
• Great time management and organisational skills.

We are currently recruiting for an Apprentice to join our Accounts team based in Birmingham. The role will see you gain your AAT qualification followed by your ACCA qualification and give you exposure to the full accounts process.

Key Responsibilities

• Accounts preparation. Assist in preparing year end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and small limited companies.
• Bookkeeping. Maintain accurate financial records, process transactions, and reconcile accounts.
• VAT returns. Support the preparation and submission of VAT returns.
• Client communication. Respond to client queries and request missing information.
• Administrative duties — Filing, scanning, organising client documents, and supporting the wider team.
• Software use. Work with cloud accounting systems such as Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage.
• Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail
• Good understanding of basic accounting principles or willingness to learn
• Confident with Excel and general IT systems
• Strong time management and organisational skills
• Professional communication and a positive attitude toward learning
• Ability to work well in a small team environment
