Job summary

Business & Accountancy Assist (BAA) in Birmingham is offering an Accounts apprenticeship (level 2) starting 1 October 2026. You will learn on-the-job, assisting the accountants with junior tasks and basic bookkeeping, within a supportive team.

The programme includes specialist training at P.T.P. TRAINING LIMITED, with hours 37 hours 30 minutes per week, Monday–Friday 9:00–17:30, and a wage of £15,600 for the first year.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or above.
  • The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You'll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

This role includes assisting the accountants junior accounting tasks. The role will vary depending on the size of the business, and the team the learners works within. Day to day activities could include; basic bookkeeping activities, working with sales and purchase ledgers, running calculations and data entry.

What you'll learn

  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation's standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues, such as reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience, and different media methods, with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Training schedule

Your programme will be delivered in centre at our Walsall Training Centre, with the following structure:

  • Candidates will be required to attend PTP's Walsall Training Centre fortnightly
  • During these sessions, new topics will be taught by your tutor
  • Between sessions, you'll complete self-study tasks spread throughout the week
  • You will have regular meetings with your tutor on 1-2-1 basis every 6-8 weeks

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade C/4 or above)
  • Mathematics (grade C/4 or above)
