Job summary

JBD Accountants in Eckington, Sheffield, invites you to join as an Accounts Apprentice, studying toward Accounts or Finance Assistant Level 2. Start date 5 October 2026, with a first-year wage of £15,600.

Hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00–17:00, 37.5 hours per week, on the job learning toward an AAT Level 2. You'll gain experience in bookkeeping, payroll support, VAT returns and use of accountancy software, with training provided by BABINGTON BUSINESS COLLEGE LIMITED.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths required as essential qualifications.
  • On-the-job training toward AAT Level 2.
  • Full UK apprenticeship with potential progression.

Summary

JBD Accountants are looking for a new Accounts Apprentice. You will be studying toward your Accounts or Finance Assistant Level 2.

Wage £15,600 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices

Hours Monday - Friday, 9.00am - 5.00pm.

What you'll do at work

Are you looking to start your career in accountancy and gain valuable experience while working towards a recognised AAT Level 2 qualification?

JBD Accountants is an established accountancy practice based in Eckington, and we are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Accounts Apprentice to join our friendly team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone at the beginning of their career who is interested in finance and wants to develop practical accountancy skills within a professional office environment.

Your duties will include:

  • Assisting with bookkeeping and general accountancy tasks
  • Supporting with payroll processing
  • Assisting with the preparation of VAT returns
  • Using accountancy software to complete day‑to‑day tasks
  • Using Microsoft Word and Excel to produce documents and maintain spreadsheets
  • Answering telephone calls and dealing with visitors professionally
  • General office administration, including filing, printing and scanning
  • Maintaining accurate financial and administrative records
  • Supporting the wider team with other accountancy tasks as you develop your skills

  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation's standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues, such as reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience, and different media methods, with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
