Qualifications

The Company: Roberts & Prowse based in Elgin Ind Estate, Swindon, Wiltshire are a Mechanical and Electrical Services Contractor who operate throughout the Home Counties, South West & South East of the UK. Due to sustained success and growth are recruiting for a Accounts Assistant to join our busy team.

The Role: We are seeking a reliable and detail oriented Accounts Assistant to support the Accounts team within our Swindon Head Office. This role offers a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to progress their career within a supportive, team focused environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Accounts Payable: Processing supplier and subcontractor invoices, maintaining accurate purchase ledger records and assisting with supplier and subcontractor payments.
  2. Accounts Receivable: Raising sales invoices, updating the sales ledger and assisting with credit control procedures.
  3. Bank and Credit Card Reconciliations: Assisting with regular reconciliations to ensure accurate financial records.
  4. Intercompany Transactions: Supporting the recording and reconciliation of intercompany balances.
  5. CIS and VAT Returns: Assisting in the preparation and submission of VAT and Construction Industry Scheme returns in line with HMRC deadlines.
  6. Payroll Support: Providing administrative assistance for payroll processing when required.
  7. Centralised Buying: Assisting with supplier purchase orders and raising jobs on our internal software (Eque2).
  8. General Accounts Admin: Filing, data entry, archiving and supporting the wider accounts team with ad hoc tasks as needed.
  9. Software Proficiency: Working with Sage Line 50 and MS Excel for day-to-day finance operations. Sage Job Costing experience is desirable but not essential; Eque2 Construction Accounting software experience is desirable.

The Person:
To succeed in this role, you should be organised, enthusiastic and eager to build your career in accounting. You’ll work closely with our experienced accounts professionals and gain hands-on experience across a wide range of accounting tasks.

Key attributes and qualifications include:
  1. Previous experience in an accounts or finance support role is desirable.
  2. AAT Level 2/3 or equivalent qualification (or currently working towards) would be an advantage.
  3. Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  4. Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Accounts Software as listed previously.
  5. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  7. A proactive and team-oriented attitude.
  8. Must be able to successfully achieve (BPSS) Baseline Personnel Security Standard military clearance.
  9. A full UK driving licence is essential for this role, as occasional travel may be required.
