Qualifications

Job Introduction

MJ Gleeson plc is a medium-sized housebuilder listed on the London Stock Exchange. The business operates across two main divisions: Gleeson Homes and Gleeson Land. Gleeson Homes specializes in low-cost house building, providing new homes to young people and low-income families in the North of England and the Midlands, helping first-time buyers onto the housing ladder. Gleeson Land focuses on land promotion, securing attractive residential planning consents mainly in the South of England, to support high housing needs.

Gleeson Homes is seeking an Accounts Assistant to join the team. The successful candidate will have responsibilities within the Treasury and Group Finance team, collaborating with various colleagues across the Finance department and the wider business.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Cashbook management
    • Posting daily cashbook transactions for all Group bank accounts
    • Reporting daily cash balances and variances against forecasts
    • Performing daily and monthly bank reconciliations
  2. Payment processing
    • Raising bank payments in accordance with approval levels and finance policies
    • Preparing purchase ledger and subcontractor ledger payment runs weekly and monthly, liaising with Accounts Payable to resolve queries
    • Managing the Treasury inbox to ensure timely payment requests and prompt responses to queries
  3. Other Finance activities
    • Preparing and submitting CIS returns with deduction statements
    • Posting credit card transactions and maintaining up-to-date statements
The Ideal Candidate
  1. Experience in finance roles involving banking, cashbook, and/or purchase ledger
  2. AAT Level 2/3 qualification or willingness to pursue an accountancy qualification
  3. Excellent communication skills and a professional attitude for working with internal and external stakeholders, including senior finance team members
  4. Strong IT skills (MS Office) and experience with accounting software
  5. Ability to meet deadlines, including month-end closes, with attention to detail
  6. Motivated, with a strong work ethic and proactive approach
