A well-known Public Sector organisation is recruiting an Accounts Assistant for an initial 6-month contract, likely extension. This is a great opportunity to join an employer with an excellent reputation serving the local community.

The Ideal Person

Minimum of two years' experience in a Finance environment, including:

  • Preparing and processing journals and reconciliations
  • Experience with a computerised accounts package
  • Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting

Or

Possess at least 5 GCSEs at 'A', 'B', or 'C' grades (including English and Mathematics).

And

Minimum of three years' experience in a Finance environment, including:

  • Preparing and processing journals and reconciliations
  • Experience with a computerised accounts package
  • Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting
  • Fully qualified Accounting Technician (e.g., AAT / ATI membership)
  • Experience in the public sector

Responsibilities

Assist with daily functions within the Finance Directorate, including:

  • Preparing and uploading journals onto the finance system
  • Supporting management and financial accountants with timely, accurate financial reports and reconciliations
  • Helping prepare internal and statutory returns to ensure compliance
  • Supporting end-of-month and end-of-year accounts procedures
  • Preparing operational and strategic reports for decision-making
  • Maintaining accurate financial records
  • Providing ad-hoc financial information, including data extraction and document creation using software like MS Excel or Access
  • Assisting with non-current asset reconciliations and stakeholder liaison
