A leading company in the oil and gas sector is seeking an Accounts Payable Clerk to manage invoices, maintain records, and liase with suppliers. This role provides an opportunity for someone pursuing an AAT qualification and offers a range of benefits including private medical insurance and life insurance.
You will provide accurate and timely processing of accounts payable transactions, ensuring compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and audit requirements. The role supports the smooth financial operations of the company by maintaining accurate records, liaising with suppliers, and supporting internal stakeholders across departments.
Key Duties & Accountabilities:
Process supplier invoices and credit notes, ensuring accurate coding and matching to purchase orders. Manage the accounts payable inbox, responding to supplier queries and internal requests. Prepare and reconcile payment runs in multiple currencies (GBP, USD, EUR, etc.) Assist in the monthly accounts close by reconciling AP sub-ledger and resolving discrepancies. Monitor aged payables and support proactive vendor management. Maintain accurate supplier master data and ensure compliance with internal controls. Support expense claim processing and credit card reconciliation. Assist the finance team with ad-hoc reporting, audits, and process improvements. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in the finance team to streamline and enhance AP processes.
Person Specification:
Knowledge & Qualifications:
Working towards AAT or similar accounting qualification is preferred. Knowledge of basic accounting principles and accounts payables procedures. Strong knowledge of accounting software. Understanding of the oil and gas industry in a project-based, international business environment is advantageous.
Skills:
Strong attention to detail and accuracy Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively across departments and with suppliers Ability to manage time effectively, prioritise tasks, and meet tight deadlines. Problem-solving mindset and willingness to take ownership of issues.
Experience:
Proven experience in an accounts payable or finance assistant role Experience of working in a high-volume, fast-paced environment, ideally in oil and gas, is preferred.
