Responsible for preparation and review of all accounting records for the European and Saudi Arabian offices, and responsible for entity accounts preparation, working closely with the Accounting Manager - Europe, and the Tax Supervisor - Europe.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.)

Accounting

  • Responsible for preparation of entity accounts working closely with the Accounting Manager - Europe, Director of Finance - Europe and the Firmwide Tax function. This involves preparation and review of statutory format financial statements, audits and responding to queries from external advisers.
  • Review revenue and balance sheet reconciliations; analyse and correct discrepancies.
  • Prepare journal entries.
  • Coordinate with teams within the Finance Department as well as Functional Area and Office Leaders to ensure appropriate use of Chart of Accounts as well as accurate GL coding.
  • Lead and participate in complex accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the Finance team as needed.
  • Meet accounting operational standards by contributing financial information to strategic plans and reviews, resolving problems, and identifying system improvements.
  • Answer accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations.
  • Involvement in outgoing bank payments.
  • Input into the firm wide budget process.

Tax Matters

  • Ensure all VAT regulations are adhered to with support from Accounting Manager - Europe. Preparation of VAT Returns.
  • Lead and support HMRC initiatives and changes - Making Tax Digital, Construction Industry Scheme, Economic Crime Act and the Basis Period Reform.
  • Gathering information necessary to support inquiries and audits from various taxing authorities.

Other ad-hoc assignments

  • Streamline and enhance processes within the department.
  • Act as a back up for other team members during periods of absence and as needed.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and participating in professional organisations.
  • Secure financial information by completing document management site backups and following internal controls.
  • Maintain customer confidence and protect operations by keeping financial information confidential.
  • Support ad-hoc assignments such as partner time reports, insurance renewals and ONS surveys.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Work Experience, Skills

  • Proven and progressive experience including working in a fast-paced, challenging professional services environment; experience in a large global law firm would be desirable.
  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA).
  • Experience and knowledge in European and Cross Border tax is preferred.
  • Demonstrated high level of diplomacy, confidentiality, and excellent judgement in navigating sensitive issues; ability to engage teams and collaborate with other teams with the objective of distinctive client services.
  • The candidate needs to be a critical thinker who possesses a high level of intellectual curiosity and ability to collaborate effectively with management and the wider finance function.
  • Strong Excel knowledge.
  • Knowledge of 3E and Chrome River would be an advantage.
