Job summary

Morrisons in Bradford seeks a key commercial finance professional to provide insight, challenge and analysis that supports profitable growth across our Convenience division. You will partner with Category Directors and Commercial stakeholders to translate trading data into actionable recommendations.

You will help with budgeting, forecasting and performance reporting, building robust models and tools to enable faster decisions.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA) with commercial acumen and understanding of retail/commerce finance.
• Strong Excel and data analysis skills; able to turn data into actionable insights.
• Experience in retail, FMCG or fast-paced consumer-facing business.
• Ability to partner with Category Directors and Commercial stakeholders to drive trading performance.

Responsibilities

• Build robust analysis of weekly and periodic trading performance and explain variances.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and performance reporting for commercial margin.
• Develop reporting tools to improve understanding of business performance and enable faster decisions.
• Collaborate with Finance to ensure consistency of reporting, planning and governance.
• Provide financial insights to support pricing, promotions and supplier investments.

More about the role

This is a key commercial finance role within our dynamic and fast-growing Convenience division. Working closely with Commercial teams, this role provides financial insight, challenge and analysis that supports better decision-making and drives profitable growth.

This role partners with Category Directors and Commercial stakeholders to understand performance, identify opportunities and risks, and translate complex financial and trading data into meaningful commercial recommendations. Supporting the wider commercial finance team, this role plays a key part in budgeting, forecasting and performance reporting while helping shape the commercial agenda through data-driven insight.

Accountabilities

Customer

• Building strong relationships as a business partner to commercial and supply chain functions; embedding finance into day-to-day decision making
• Comfortable and adaptive to working with both financial and non-finance facing stakeholders
• Responsive to stakeholders across the commercial function and ad hoc requests from these individuals
• Identify opportunities to improve profitability through enhanced analysis and commercial challenge.

Colleague

• Partner with Category Managers and Commercial stakeholders to provide financial insight that supports trading performance, pricing decisions, promotional activity and margin improvement.
• Driving continuous improvement in processes and analysis within Commercial Finance

Operational

• Produce robust analysis of weekly and periodic trading performance, identifying trends, explaining variances and recommending actions or improvement
• Support annual budget setting for commercial margin
• Build reporting and analytical tools that improve understanding of business performance and enable faster decision-making.
• Support quarterly outturn and forecast delivery plan
• Collaborate across Finance to ensure consistency of reporting, planning and governance.

Sales, Profit and Cash

• Support strategic commercial decisions, including pricing, ranging, promotions and supplier investment, through robust financial analysis and recommendations
• Develop financial models and business cases to support commercial initiatives and investment decisions.
• Develop business cases for commercial initiatives and evaluate post-investment performance.

Knowledge

• A qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA), with strong commercial acumen and an understanding of commercial and retail finance

Skills

• The confidence & ability to challenge non-finance stakeholders to deliver the right end-results
• Strong Excel and Google Workspace skills with experience using financial reporting and planning systems.
• Resilience and the ability to adapt in an ever changing environment
• Confident in analysing complex data, with the ability to turn it into clear, actionable insight
• Proactive, curious and solutions-focused – always looking for ways to add value.

Experience

• Experience within retail, FMCG or another fast-paced consumer-facing business
• Understanding of retail dynamics (e.g., promotional mechanics, wastage, supply chain metrics)
