Salary: £42,000 - £52,000 per annum, depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Contract type: 18 month fixed term contract / attachment

Job Introduction

We are looking for a Finance Specialist, Capital & Lease Accounting to join our Financial Operations team based in Cardiff, as part of Finance Central. This is a permanent contract.

Financial Operations provides professional financial support to a range of BBC stakeholders as part of the BBC’s Finance function. The Capital and leasing function ensures effective control of processes relating to Capital Accounting (including Assets Under Construction) and IFRS16 leases, delivering high quality and consistent operational excellence.

Main Responsibilities

• Provide specialist technical financial knowledge regarding IFRS 16 leasing and related costs.
• Technical assessment of BBC contracts for lease requirements.
• Management of lease contracts.
• Forecast and Budget for lease contracts.
• Provide assurances to stakeholders on the BBC's financial model.
• Provide technical accounting and financial reporting.
• Ensure compliance with the BBC Accounting Policies.
• Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of the BBC lease environment.
• Build strong relationships with key stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities for efficiencies, process improvement, and value-add where possible.

Are you the right candidate?

Experience and knowledge of IFRS 16 accounting is essential. You will have strong analytical skills and be fully qualified with a professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, ACA, CIMA). Financial Reporting and/or management accounting knowledge and the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, both within Finance Central and with other divisions, are especially important. You will be required to operate independently but effective team playing is also important due to the nature and size of the Finance team.

• Qualified professional accountant e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent.
• Experience and knowledge of IFRS 16 accounting.
• Previous experience with SAP would be beneficial but is not essential.
• Highly developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence.
• Experience of advanced Excel and modeling skills, in relation to key finance information including budgets and forecasts.
• Ability to manage senior stakeholders, including explaining complex data/principles to non-finance professionals.
• Knowledge of the theory and practical application of accounting principles and controls, with experience of consolidation adjustments desirable.
