Job summary

Elevation Recruitment Group, based near Chesterfield, is seeking an Accountant to support the Financial Controller. You will ensure accurate monthly reporting, robust controls, and compliance across PAYE, NI, VAT, and Corporation Tax.

The role collaborates with senior management and external stakeholders to drive financial performance. The successful candidate will have ACCA/ACA/CIMA qualifications and at least five years in finance, with strong Excel skills and experience in finance systems.

Qualifications

• ACCA/ ACA/ CIMA qualification completed.
• Five years' experience in finance or accounting.
• Strong knowledge of UK taxation and financial controls.
• Experience overseeing payroll processes.
• Excellent Excel skills and experience with finance systems.
• Ability to communicate complex financial information to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet, and cashflow reporting.
• Produce accurate financial reports and analyses for senior management and directors.
• Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances.
• Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
• Monitor financial performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Assist in year-end statutory accounts and external audits.
• Manage and prepare VAT returns and support Corporation Tax processes.
• Ensure PAYE, NIC, P11D reporting, and other statutory obligations.
• Oversee payroll preparation and reconciliation and HMRC submissions.
• Maintain robust financial controls and governance procedures.
• Ensure financial records comply with company policies and statutory requirements.

Elevation Recruitment Group are delighted to be working with a growing engineering and services business based in Chesterfield as we look to support them with the hire of an Accountant for their team. This is a newly created role which will help support the Financial Controller in the delivery of accurate financial reporting, statutory compliance, taxation management, payroll oversight, and commercial financial support across the business.

This is a key position within the Finance Team, responsible for ensuring robust financial controls, maintaining compliance with all relevant legislation, and providing high-quality financial information to support business decision-making. The Accountant role will also work very closely with the senior management team, operational teams, and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Prepare and review monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cashflow reporting
• Produce accurate financial reports and analysis for senior management and directors
• Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate any variances
• Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities

• Provide financial guidance and support to operational, commercial, and project teams
• Assist with project cost reporting, procurement analysis, and commercial decision-making
• Build effective working relationships across the business to support operational performance and profitability
• Contribute to strategic initiatives, business improvement projects, and future growth plans

Essential Qualifications & Experience

• ACCA, ACA, or CIMA Qualified
• Minimum five years' experience in a finance or accounting role
• Strong understanding of financial controls, reconciliations, and audit requirements
• Extensive experience preparing management accounts and financial reports
• Strong knowledge of UK taxation
• Experience overseeing payroll processes (Ideal)
• Strong Excel skills and experience using finance systems
• Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to communicate complex financial information to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
