Job description

Inspired is a market leading, technology-enabled provider of energy and sustainability solutions in the UK - supporting businesses to transition to net zero carbon and manage their response to climate change.

Established in 2000, we became the first publicly quoted advisor following a successful AIM debut in 2011. We are now the UK’s number one destination for businesses seeking expert insight and advisory services to help them manage their energy costs, reduce their carbon emissions and prove their net zero carbon and ESG strategies to their investors and customers

We are looking for anAccount Managerto join our successful Key Accounts team. This role ishome basedwith travel to our Kirkham office required at least twice a month.

Role and Responsibilities

The Account Manager – Key Accounts is responsible for the retention, growth, and commercial development of a defined portfolio of clients. Unlike a standard account management role, this position carries an explicit mandate to identify and convert cross-sell and upsell opportunities across Inspired Energy's full product suite - spanning energy procurement, ESG and emissions reporting, and behind-the-meter (BTM) energy management solutions.

The AM will build deep, multi-threaded relationships within client organisations, ensuring Inspired is viewed not only as a procurement partner, but as a trusted strategic adviser on energy costs, sustainability obligations, and long-term energy management.

The successful candidate's responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
  • Manage a defined portfolio of key accounts, acting as the primary day-to-day point of contact.
  • Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships at multiple levels within each client organisation, including Procurement, Finance, Sustainability, and Facilities/Engineering.
  • Conduct regular client reviews to assess satisfaction, upcoming requirements, and strategic fit.
  • Proactively manage renewals, re-tenders, and contract negotiations to secure long-term retention.
Cross-Sell & Upsell
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to introduce additional Inspired Energy products and services to existing clients, including emissions and ESG reporting solutions, and BTM energy assets (solar, storage, EV charging, HVAC optimisation).
  • Map each client's organisational structure to identify unspent budget headroom across departments not yet engaging with Inspired Energy.
  • Develop account growth plans with clearly defined cross-sell targets and timelines, tracked through CRM.
  • Collaborate with internal specialists (BTM, ESG, Procurement) to build compelling, multi-product propositions tailored to each client's energy strategy.
  • Work towards a "land and expand" model - growing initial procurement-only relationships into multi-service partnerships.
  • Manage and lead tendering processes for energy contracts, constructing group tenders in a professional and client-appropriate manner.
  • Negotiate tailored supply agreements that reflect individual client requirements.
  • Deliver market guidance, cost comparisons, and reporting (including Excel-based analysis, graphs, and narrative summaries) to support informed client decision-making.
  • Stay current on UK energy market developments and communicate relevant insights to clients proactively.
Stakeholder Engagement & Commercial Development
  • Navigate client organisations vertically - from energy managers to Finance Directors - adapting communication style and commercial framing accordingly.
  • Represent Inspired Energy at industry events, client premises, and sector forums.
  • Contribute to product development and service innovation by feeding client intelligence back into the business.
Operations & Compliance
  • Manage client queries and issues efficiently - including billing, data, terminations, objections, and change of tenancy matters using the correct supporting teams.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all client activity through CRM.
  • Hit and exceed revenue and cross-sell targets as agreed with management.
  • Read and comply with the company Health & Safety Policy; taking reasonable care for the Health & Safety of themselves and others; co-operate with managers and other employees in fulfilling our objectives and statutory duties.
Commercial & Strategic
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify revenue growth opportunities within an existing client base.
  • Comfortable discussing financial concepts such as ROI, contract payback periods, and cost-benefit analysis with senior client stakeholders.
  • Ability to understand a client's broader energy and sustainability strategy and align Inspired's services accordingly.
Relationship & Communication
  • Consultative approach - listens first, builds solutions around client needs rather than leading with product.
  • Confident and credible across a range of client seniority levels.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; able to produce clear client-facing reports and deliver presentations.
  • Working knowledge of UK energy markets, procurement structures, and supply contract mechanics.
  • Awareness of the UK sustainability landscape - including SECR, net zero commitments, and how ESG obligations are driving energy decisions at board level.
  • Familiarity with, or curiosity about, BTM energy technologies and the role they play in a client's broader energy strategy.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
  • Proven B2B account management experience with complex, multi-site clients
  • Demonstrable track record of upselling or cross-selling within an existing client base
  • Experience managing clients in the UK energy sector
  • Ability to engage confidently with multiple stakeholders across client organisations (e.g. Procurement, Finance, Sustainability)
  • Strong commercial and financial literacy - comfortable discussing ROI, contract structures, and energy costs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel)
  • Full, clean UK driving license
  • Degree-level education
  • Knowledge of ESG frameworks, SECR, or Scope 1/2/3 emissions reporting
  • Exposure to behind-the-meter energy solutions (solar, storage, EV charging, HVAC)
  • Experience working with CRM systems
  • Background in energy consultancy, aggregation, or managed energy services

  • Company pension
  • Life insurance
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity
  • Benefits portal, with a wide range of benefits
  • 4pm finish on Friday
