Job description

About the Role:

We are looking for a proactive individual with excellent attention to detail to join our team as an Academy Data Insights Analyst. The successful candidate will be the main point of contact for the Data Insights team within the Academy, focused on translating data into actionable insights that enhance decision-making. This person will be responsible for data visualisation and analysis to answer performance questions, profile players, support the development of a comprehensive reporting system and assist on the creation and delivery of individual development plans.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

People

  • Provide a high degree of support to key stakeholders and non-technical staff to enhance their understanding and utilisation of data.
  • Work closely with analysts, coaches, scouts, performance staff and others to translate data into practical performance strategies.
  • Develop a strong relationship with the Head of Academy, Heads of Department, AMT Staff and wider MDT Team to support the elite player programme and the delivery of our Academy football programme.

Process

  • Use data to answer ad-hoc performance questions to support decision-making.
  • Responsible for long-term longitudinal research projects focused on identifying trends.
  • Ensure data best practices across the Club, liaising with the Head of Sports Data Insights to ensure alignment with the wider Club data strategy.
  • Undertake longitudinal projects across a variety of different departments that can help to enhance decision making and produce actionable insights.
  • Adopt a research-orientated approach to explore present and future trends, and to educate key stakeholders on these methods.

Product

  • Basic querying, wrangling and manipulation of data.
  • Work with various complex football datasets to create custom metrics.
  • Build dashboards and other tools to be presented and distributed across the Club.

What are we looking for:

  • Undergraduate degree in Data Science, Performance Analysis, Sports Science, Sports Analytics or relevant field with a strong analytics background.
  • Previous experience working with Tableau.
  • Previous experience working with Statsbomb and/or Opta.
  • Previous experience working with data within a professional football club.
  • High level of Excel proficiency.
  • Experience coding
  • Evidence of working and communicating insights from football data at any level.
  • Pro-actively solve problems with a positive attitude to new challenges.
  • Proactive and keen to learn, able to pick up new skills and work as part of a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and evidence of working on developing strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent ability to showcase data and metrics through strong visuals.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate degree in Data Science or relevant field.
  • Evidence of data analytics CPD, certification or course.
