Job summary

John Lewis Partnership is seeking a Driver Technician Trainee for Origin Park Customer Delivery Hub in London. The role starts with a structured 3-month trainee programme to become a fully qualified Customer Delivery Technician with a C1 licence, delivering and installing products at customers’ homes as part of a two-person crew.

Earn £30,000–£37,700 per year with evenings and nights premiums. The role is permanent, with 4-day weeks across AM/PM shifts and a 5-week rota that includes weekends.

• Previous experience in a customer-facing role.
• Great verbal communication skills both over the phone and in person.

Responsibilities

• Show respect for the customer's home and handle situations to find the best solution for customers.
• Install products (e.g., wall-mount TVs, integrated appliances, hard-wired installations) efficiently for customers.
• Keep up to date with new products and technologies to perform your role at your best.
• Adhere to driving regulations, including Working Time Directive and EU regs for a safe working environment.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Driver Technician Trainee, you'll be supported through our extensive 3-month trainee programme to become a fully qualified John Lewis Customer Delivery Technician with a C1 driving licence.

Once you're fully trained, you'll have the unique opportunity of bringing our distinctive John Lewis service right to our customers' door and installing the products they love into their homes (such as furniture, large electrical appliances, sound systems and TV sets) as part of a 2-person delivery crew.

Due to the nature of these roles, we require all applicants to be 18 or over by their start date.

In addition to your contractual pay, any time worked between 18:00 - 22:00 will attract an Evening Premium at a rate of £2.75 per hour, and any time worked between 22:00 - 06:00 will attract a Night Premium at a rate of £3.75 per hour. This will also apply to existing Partners who have enrolled onto Enhanced Hours Premium arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

• Being an ambassador for the John Lewis brand with great customer service is your number one priority.
• Perform daily checks and assist in loading your vehicle with the daily deliveries while collaborating with the warehouse team.
• Show great respect and courtesy for the customer's home, and handle unexpected situations to find the best possible solution for your customers.
• Installing various products (including wall-mount TVs, integrated appliances, and hard-wired appliance installations). This will be completed efficiently and quickly for our customers, and will demonstrate how they work once installed.
• Keeping up to date with new products and technologies to perform your role at your best.
• Adhere to all legal driving regulations, including the Working Time Directive and EU regulations to maintain a safe working environment.

Please note that this role involves heavy lifting. You will spend a lot of time delivering large items such as sofas, white goods, sports equipment, furniture, beds, and mattresses.

Essential skills/experience you'll need

• UK B-Category manual driving licence with no more than 6 points.
• Previous experience in a customer-facing role.
• Have great verbal communication skills both over the phone and in person.
• Good understanding of technology and an interest in installation.

Desirable skills/experience you may have

• Prior experience in installation and customer delivery services.
• Previous role model or team leader experience
