Job summary

GM Performance Power Units is seeking a 2nd Shift Quality Technician to lead advanced dimensional inspection using CMMs and optical systems, develop programs from CAD data, and mentor junior staff. The role demands strong metrology knowledge and the ability to influence inspection practices in a fast-paced motorsport environment.

Qualifications

• Apprenticeship, technical diploma, or equivalent with hands-on metrology experience.
• Hands-on with tactile CMMs and optical systems.
• Proficiency with CMM/optical software (Calypso or similar).
• Strong GD&T knowledge for aerospace/automotive drawings.
• Proven problem-solving and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute complex inspections using CMMs, structured light, laser systems, and other metrology tools.
• Develop, optimize, and validate inspection programs from CAD models and drawings.
• Interpret complex GD&T requirements and advise engineering teams on measurement feasibility and results.
• Lead investigations of dimensional nonconformances and provide data-driven input to root cause analysis.
• Train, mentor, and support junior technicians in equipment use, inspection methods, and reporting.
• Collaborate with Quality Engineers to improve inspection strategies, fixtures, and measurement workflows.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within metrology, driving advancements in accuracy, efficiency, and repeatability.
• Ensure inspection activities comply with internal QMS, and FIA technical regulations.
