Job summary

QinetiQ is seeking a 2nd Line IT Support Engineer to deliver high-quality support across IT systems, infrastructure, applications and services. This role supports a major Defence programme and requires working within a secure environment at the Hereford site.

The successful candidate will provide incident resolution, system maintenance and change implementation, collaborating with customers, vendors and internal teams. DV clearance is mandatory.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years' professional IT support experience.
• Experience administering and troubleshooting Windows and/or Linux environments.
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching, firewalls).
• Experience with patching, maintaining and supporting enterprise systems and infrastructure.
• Experience using ITSM/Service Desk tools within an ITIL-aligned environment.
• Understanding of cloud computing concepts and modern IT operational practices.

Responsibilities

• Resolve incidents and service requests across a broad range of IT services and technologies.
• Support system administration, maintenance, patching and configuration activities.
• Work with customers, third-party suppliers and internal teams to ensure timely issue resolution.
• Implement technical changes per change management processes.
• Produce accurate technical documentation, reports and procedures.
• Be willing to be part of the outside hours rota.

The Role

As an IT Support Engineer, you'll play a key role in delivering high-quality 2nd line support across a diverse range of IT systems, infrastructure, applications and services. This is a rare opportunity to join a newly formed team supporting a major Ministry of Defence programme as QinetiQ embarks on an exciting new five-year contract.

Day-to-day, you'll provide technical support, incident resolution, system maintenance and change implementation while working closely with customers, vendors and internal engineering teams. You'll help maintain the availability, security and performance of critical systems operating within a highly secure environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Resolving incidents and service requests across a broad range of IT services and technologies
• Supporting system administration, maintenance, patching and configuration activities
• Working closely with customers, third-party suppliers and internal support teams to ensure timely issue resolution
• Implementing technical changes in accordance with established change management processes
• Producing accurate technical documentation, reports and operational procedures
• Willingness to be part of the outside hours rota

Essential experience of the 2nd Line Support Engineer:

• At least 3 years' experience in an IT Support, Infrastructure Support or 2nd Line Support role
• Experience administering and troubleshooting Windows and/or Linux environments
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching and firewalls
• Experience patching, maintaining and supporting enterprise systems and infrastructure
• Experience using ITSM and Service Desk tools within an ITIL-aligned environment
• Understanding of cloud computing concepts and modern IT operational practices

Essential qualifications for the 2nd Line Support Engineer:

• Current DV (Developed Vetting) clearance
• Minimum of 3 years' professional IT support experience
• Experience working within highly secure or restricted environments
